For Permanent Adhesion of Protective Systems

In vehicle manufacturing, corrosion protection plays a crucial role—not only for aesthetics, but above all for the longevity and safety of body panels, chassis, and attached components. Since vehicles consist of various materials such as steel, aluminum, or composite materials that react differently to environmental influences, effective corrosion protection is essential. To ensure permanent adhesion of protective coatings such as paint finishes, powder coatings, or galvanic coatings, thorough surface preparation is indispensable.

Blasting agents perform this task effectively: They remove rust, scale, old coatings, and dirt, and create a defined surface roughness that optimizes the adhesion of protective systems.

Why Blasting Agents Are Indispensable in Vehicle Manufacturing

The requirements for surfaces in vehicle manufacturing are particularly high: aesthetics, corrosion protection, paint adhesion, and precision are paramount. The selection of the right blasting agent influences roughness, cleaning efficiency, and the economic viability of the process. For vehicle manufacturing, fine-grained blasting agents are particularly in demand, as they gently process sensitive body parts while still removing rust and old paint layers.

Blasting agents ensure that:

  • Rust, oxides, and contaminants are reliably removed,
  • Surfaces are homogenized and roughened,
  • The adhesion capacity of paint finishes or coatings is maximized,
  • Standards and quality requirements (e.g., ISO 8501–1 for cleanliness grades and ISO 8503 for roughness grades) are met.

Advantages of Blasting Agent Applications in Vehicle Manufacturing

  • Maximum adhesion for paint finishes, powder coatings, or metallic protective systems
  • Effective removal of rust and old coatings
  • Standards-compliant surface quality according to ISO 8501–1 and ISO 8503.
  • Gentle processing of sensitive components

Tips for Optimal Blasting Agent Application in Vehicle Manufacturing

Stainless steel or aluminum parts should only be processed with iron-free blasting agents to prevent flash rust.

For vehicle paint finishes, a fine roughness is usually recommended; for underbody protection or powder coatings, correspondingly higher.

Fine components require lower pressure, while robust chassis parts require higher energy.

Reused and uncleaned blasting agents reduce effectiveness. Regular cleaning and sieving ensures consistent surface quality.

Freshly blasted metal parts react quickly with atmospheric moisture. Paint finishes or primers should be applied immediately after blasting.

Protective equipment, extraction systems, and dust filters are mandatory, especially for interior or small components.
